New Bonuses With Meal Plans Come Fall

Apr. 27, 2003 | By Jane Kolb, DSJ Staff Reporter

With classes winding down, finals approaching, and the summer looming, few students won’t think about next semester until August rolls around. One thing to consider before heading out of Williamsburg, though, is how you plan on eating next fall. The William and Mary Dining Services have meal plan options available for purchase now through 8 August, and while they have not changed, attached benefits will increase next semester.

One of the biggest changes beginning in Fall 2003 is that an on-campus pizza delivery service will be available for students, and though contracts have not gone through yet, it will be a nationally known delivery brand. Flex points will also have increased worth on campus, and will be accepted at the Student X-Change, as well as for pizza delivery.

“We’re trying to give you more value for your flex points,” said Dining Services Director Phil DiBenedetto. “We want to offer more options and opportunities [and] make the meal plan more valuable to students.”

A made-to-order Sushi bar will premiere in Lodge 1, and prepackaged selections will be available at other campus locations such as the Marketplace and Tribe on the Go. The successful Real Food on Campus (RFoC) program, implemented last January, will continue. The University Center’s Center Court will maintain its new hours of operation on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Meal plan options are posted on the Dining Services website at www.wm.edu/auxiliary/dining. Prices for each option are currently under consideration by the Board of Directors and will be posted within the first week of May. As an added bonus, for every $100 purchased in flex points, an extra $10 are added to your plan. This is not a limited offer, but lasts through the summer, and applies to all meal plans, not just an additional purchase of flex points. The Gold 10 Plan is the only service now currently offered by Dining Services that will not return in the fall, but it will once again be available in the spring of 2004.

Once you have selected a meal plan for next semester, you will register for it through the new Banner Web system. After logging into myWM, proceed to Banner Web, then Personal Information, then Answer Survey, and finally Meal Plan Selection Form. Follow the instructions from there. Dining Services would like to emphasize though, that once you have made your selection, you are not able to reactivate the system, so it is important to be sure of the decision you are making. If there is a problem though, and you do need to change a selection, email meals@wm.edu to request the change.

William and Mary’s Dining Services administration and staff are committed to serving the campus as well as possible, and welcome all comments and suggestions. Feedback can be directed to dining@wm.edu or 221-2110. And in the meantime log-on and check out what meal plan best suits you for next fall, not forgetting, of course, the free flex points offer that may just provide enough extra money for that desperately needed pizza after a late night of studying.
