Baseball: The team hit a rough patch to start the month of April, losing six of seven on the road. Happy to back at Plumeri Park, the Tribe responded with a 4-1 win over Christopher Newport and a three game sweep of Old Dominion, which included a walk-off win in the Sunday finale. The Tribe is currently 21-14 overall and 6-6 in CAA play.
Women’s Lacrosse: After opening CAA play with a loss at #16 Hofstra and a win at Drexel, the 20th ranked women’s lacrosse team played host to CAA foes Towson and Delaware. After beating Towson 18-12, the Tribe fell to #11 Towson, 12-6. The Tribe is now 8-6 overall with a 2-2 conference record.
Men’s Tennis: After going 4-0 in CAA league play this season, the men’s tennis team was awarded with the top seed in the CAA Tournament. They cruised in the quarterfinals against #8 seed Drexel and would proceed to clip #5 seed Georgia State in the semis, 4-3. Unfortunately, the Tribe fell short in the championship to #2 seed VCU. The team tied the school record for most dual-match wins with 20 on the season.
Women’s Tennis: The women’s tennis team started the month of April with an impressive 6-1 win over #58 ranked Marshall at home. Finishing up conference play by beating ODU on the road and losing to #24 ranked VCU at home, the team ended with a 3-1 conference record, good enough for the second seed in the CAA Championship. After easily beating Delaware and George State in the first two rounds of the CAA tournament, the team advanced to the finals, only to lose in heartbreaking fashion to the #1 seed VCU, 4-3.
Men’s Track and Field: William and Mary hosted the Colonial Relays, with the men’s team finishing in second place with 97 points. The Tribe also participated in the Mason Spring Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays. Most recently, the team had four season-leading performances and won seven events at the JMU Invitational.
Women’s Track & Field: The women’s track team also placed second in the Colonial Relays with 81 points. They then participated in the Mason Spring Invitational, where they won four events and gained for ECAC qualifications. After several solid performances at the Mt. SAC Relays, the team also performed well at the JMU Invitational, as two throwers re-qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Men’s Golf: In the CAA Championship at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA, the College placed second, with a 54-hole team score of 896 (+56). Towson won the championship with a score of 885. The Tribe’s runner-up finish was their best result in the conference championship since winning the title in 1985. The team concluded its season with two second-place finishes and four top-five finishes during the season.
Women’s Golf: The women’s golf team finished fourth in the CAA Championship, which was held at The Homestead. The Tribe finished with a three-day score of 951 (+87). Senior Morgan Stepanek led the way, shooting 229 (+15) during the tournament. Her play was good enough for a tie for fourth place, in addition to a spot on the All-Tournament honors list. On the season, the Tribe won two tournaments and placed in the top-five on six occasions.
Men’s Gymnastics: The 15th ranked men’s gymnastics team hosted the East College Athletic Conference Championships at Kaplan Arena, finishing third with a team score of 337.650. In individual competition, four members of the squad received All-East honors. Seven members went on to represent the Tribe in the first round of the NCAA Championships, with senior Derek Gygax advancing to the second round, where he finished 18th overall in the all-around competition.
Women’s Gymnastics: The women’s gymnastics team ended its season at the USAG Collegiate Nationals, hosted by the Texas Women’s University. The Tribe finished in fourth place as a team, while Teenie Beck finished in sixth place in the individual vault event. Beck also placed 13th in the All-Around at the NCAA Southeast Regionals earlier in the month.
