Summer is just around the corner. No more exams, papers, projects or classes.
Whether you’re working, volunteering, vacationing or even taking summer classes, you will definitely have more free time. But what is the normally busy College student to do with this surplus of down-time? Well, don’t panic. Here are a few ideas for what to do with this glorious freedom:
Eat Otter Pops:
Never heard of them? The otter pop is like a popsicle without a stick, but better. Pick up a huge pack from the supermarket for only a few dollars and fight over the blue raspberry flavor (are raspberries even blue, anyway?). With only 25 calories a stick, even your most diet-conscious friends will eat them with you by the pool.
Catch Up on Bad Reality T.V.:
After finals, you might feel a little self-conscious about your intelligence, but don’t fret. Just watching five minutes of “Keeping up with the Kardashians” will confirm your wit and make you feel a whole lot better about yourself. Then, go on and take full advantage of your liberal arts education and look at representations of sexuality and femininity on "The Girls Next Door." Don’t miss "America’s Next Top Model" - check out the marathons that MTV is bound to present all day, every day.
Hang Out With Your Mama:
I have a secret: your mother misses you and wants to spend time with you. Not to mention, Mother’s Day is coming up in just a few weeks. It’s time to do something nice for her and catch up with the family. Plus, if you spend the day with her, she might take you out to dinner later. There’s nothing like good, quality time with those closest to you.
Have a Fondue Party:
Craving good food? Sick of the UC and the Caf? Having dreams of real meals? Rather than spending an exorbitant amount of money on dinner at The Melting Pot, create your own fondue party and invite all the high school friends you almost forgot about this year. Lay a few pillows on the floor and go Boho for a day. The food will be delicious and the company even better.
Make an "L-Word" Hookup list:
If you’ve seen the show "The L-Word," you might know that Alice makes a huge spiderweb of lesbian connections - Jenny who hooks up with Sarah who hooks up with Shane who hooks up with, well, everyone. Create your own spiderweb with everyone you know. The results might be surprising. If you’ve never seen the show, this is the perfect time to start. You don’t know what you’re missing.
Keep in mind that these are by no means the only options out there. The summer is the perfect time to create new hobbies, find new guilty pleasures, and wind down from the stressful year and harrowing exams.
Take this time to get some much-needed R&R. And if you discover a new trashy reality television show in the process? Well, that’s just a perk.
