The Story

Best of "Grey's Anatomy"

Sep. 17, 2007 | By Megan Grady, DSJ Staff Reporter

The popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy can be seen Thursday nights on ABC.

We all remember how it ended last May. It was probably one of the most tragic season finales in all of television history. Let’s recap: Meredith and Derek are on the rocks, Addison moves to Los Angeles, Bailey doesn’t get chief resident, George fails his boards, Alex loses Ava, Izzie is in love with George and of course, the biggest shock of all - Burke runs out on his and Cristina’s wedding.

I’m sure many of you have given up on â€"Grey’s Anatomy” based on one heartbreaking episode. Shame on you. Season three was released last Tuesday (make sure you get it!), giving you the chance to renew your faith in the show. And don’t miss UCAB’s â€"Grey’s Anatomy” night on Fri., Sept. 28 in the Lodge One at 9 p.m., where you can watch some of the best episodes and have a chance to win DVDs of the three seasons. In preparation for that, here are the top five episodes to make you fall back in love with Grey’s again:

1. â€"Who’s Zoomin’ Who?” (Episode 9, Season 1) - This episode is quite possibly my favorite. It was the perfect way to end the season - everyone seems happy, then suddenly the characters’ worlds collapse around them. George has syphilis and becomes the joke of the hospital. The Chief has a potentially career-ending surgery. Cristina’s pregnant. And then there’s the best shock of all - the fabulous McDreamy has a wife.

2. â€"Into You Like a Train” (Episode 6, Season 2) - This is one of the most touching episodes in the series. It begins with Meredith waiting for Derek to show up and â€"pick her” over Addison, but then all of the interns find out about a massive train wreck and have to go back to the hospital for the first of many catastrophes to hit the show. We’re introduced to Bonnie, a victim of the train wreck who manages to touch everyone who is lucky enough to meet her. Anyone who’s human usually bawls at the end of this phenomenal episode.

3. â€"Yesterday” (Episode 18, Season 2) - This is one of the most revealing episodes in the series. McSteamy appears for the first time, adding tension into the already-complicated lives of Derek, Addison and Meredith. What makes this one fun is the woman with spontaneous orgasms. And then there’s the guy with lionitis who keeps an incredibly positive outlook on his life, despite his disease. All in all, it’s a good episode filled with some laughs.

4. â€"What I Am” (Episode 4, Season 3) - This episode threw the first curveball of season three. Meredith seems to be fighting morning sickness, which leads the staff to assume she’s pregnant. Luckily, she finds out she has appendicitis instead. After her surgery, while drugged up, one of my favorites â€"Grey’s” moments happens - Addison reveals to Meredith how she truly feels about her. This is also the episode where Meredith chooses Derek over Finn.

5. â€"Great Expectations” (Episode 13, Season 3) - This episode changed the direction of the season with its shocking ending. The majority of the episode was pretty typical other than the Chief’s announcement that he is retiring. But in the last two minutes, Derek tells Meredith he’ll always be there for her, George proposes to Callie, and Burke, after weeks of not speaking to Cristina, proposes to her. No one could have predicted all of those events; that the episode left me with a dropped jaw, staring at the television. Typical â€"Grey’s Anatomy”-style shock.

Those five episodes there should be enough to win you back over just in time for the UCAB’s â€"Grey’s” night and the season premiere on Sept. 27.
