The Marshall-Wythe School of Law is contending with heterosexism. Law School Dean Taylor Reveley notified the College law community in an email Sunday of a spate of anti-homosexual identity slurs plaguing the Lesbian & Gay Law Association bulletin board in the main classroom hall.

According to University Relations director Brian Whitson, College police are currently investigating the incident, which most likely took place late Friday afternoon.

Officials are not certain whether the person responsible for the vandalism was associated with the College or merely a passerby.

The Dean will be in room 127 of the Law School at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to receive suggestions and input from members of the College community.

Reveleys email also noted the crimes contrary position to the ideals of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, reminding law students that this community should not ever interfere with bulletin boards, should not express disagreement in damagingly hateful ways and should attempt to accept different perspectives.

"We go beyond mere tolerance of views with which we differ, even strongly, to try hard to understand these different views sympathetically and to reach across the divide for common ground," said Reveley in the email. "Marshall-Wythe's civility and collegiality, as well as the trust we have in one another, are central to our life together. They are vital characteristics of our community, which we must protect assiduously."
