College Student Charged in Rape

Nov. 4, 2005 | By Jenn Sykes, DSJ Staff Reporter

Earlier this week senior Patrick Decker was charged with raping a female student at the College.

An e-mail from Vice President Sam Sadler said the event took place in Charles City County and that Decker was arraigned in Court on Monday, 30 October.

Since the incident did not occur on the College's campus, it is being handled by the Charles City County police department. According to Charles City County Sheriff B. A. Washington, Sr., the event occurred on the Charles City County-James City County border on Friday, 28 October, at a party being held in Charles City County.

Sheriff Washington added that Decker is being charged by the County on behalf of the victim, a College student the DoG Street Journal has decided not to identify, and that Decker was transported to Riverside Regional Jail on 30 October and appeared in court on 2 November. The Charles City County Sherrif's Office is still conducting the investigation, and Decker is next expected to appear in court on 4 January, 2006.

Washington was unable to confirm whether Decker was still in Riverside Regional Jail, and Vice President Sadler was unable to comment on whether or not Decker or the victim were still enrolled at the College.
