Men’s Tennis Doubles up Competition at Fallon Invitational

Sep. 22, 2004 | By Grant Martin, DSJ Staff Reporter

The men’s tennis team opened its 2004 season in dominant fashion this weekend at the Tom Fallon Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, sweeping its first four doubles matches and not looking back en route to a 11-3 overall doubles mark against strong competition from Notre Dame, Purdue, Maryland, and Drake.

The tandem of Sean Kelleher and Stephen Ward compiled a perfect 4-0 record in the tournament. Senior Jeff Kader, ranked #26 nationally, also won all four of the doubles matches in which he was involved.

The Tribe also looked strong in singles competition, going 9-4 on the second day of the tournament and finishing with a 14-14 overall record. Freshman Kavi Sud emerged from his first collegiate tournament with a near-perfect record, amassing a 4-1 doubles record while going 3-1 in singles. Other Tribe rookies to win in their first tournament include Alexandru Cojanu, Matt Rubenstein, and Peter Szewcyzk.

The Tribe next returns to action at the UVA Invitational in Charlotte, Virginia, from September 24-26.
