Student Assembly Executive Dissolved; Special Elections By Febraury 13

Jan. 24, 2003 | By DSJ Staff Report

Citing restrictive medical circumstances, Student Assembly President Linsay Burnett has announced her resignation from her duties, effective immediately. Burnett issued a statement Friday to the College community saying she “cannot continue to serve,” yet “our school needs a strong student voice more than ever.”

While specific details are unknown, unless a swift senate amendment is authored and passed changing current Constitution rules, a special election must occur by February 13.

Burnett requested “for the ability to appoint an interim president,” in her letter of resignation. However, such a move would be unconstitutional according to current emergency vacancy procedures. The Student Assembly Constitution states, “An emergency election shall be held no later than fourteen (14) weekdays from the removal of the Student Body President.”

The DSJ will continuously update this story as more information becomes available.
